Monggo goodness with Knorr pork cubes

Superfoods are now becoming popular among health buffs because of the extra boost in nutrients that they give. I've been buying chia seeds and quinoa for some time now to mix them in smoothies and other dishes. But frankly, I cannot buy these in large quantities because they are usually expensive and available only in select health stores and weekend markets.

But guess what! A childhood favorite, which is very inexpensive and locally grown, is also a superfood! MONGGO!

Knorr actually reminded me of this when they sent over a picnic basket containing some monggo beans, their Knorr Pork Cubes and some monggo recipes as well (thanks so much, Knorr!!!).

Here's more on the goodness within monggo beans (Mung Beans, in English).

* Prevents heart disease - Monggo contains lecithin which fights low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol. It also reduces liver fat. Because it is a legume, it also helps reduce the risk of heart disease.

* Potential anti-cancer properties - Studies show that monggo can reduce the risk of certain types of cancer like stomach, colon, cervical and breast cancer.

* Rich in nutrients - Monggo is very rich in nutrients needed by the body such as iron (for increasing oxygen delivery through blood cells), magnesium (to maintain normal muscle function), folate (to support nerve and brain function), and vitamin K (for healthy bone tissue).

* Ideal for weight loss - Monggo is fiber-rich and low in calories. It is an ideal substitute for rice in the case of those watching their intake of carbs. Monggo is even safe for diabetics as it regulates blood sugar.

* Well-rounded for dietary necessities - Monggo gives an extra boost of energy.

Monggo is quite versatile, actually. It's been used with fish, beef, pork or chicken. My favorite though is when it is mixed in with malunggay leaves. Many times, just monggo stew mixed in with a little rice is enough for my meal. It is so tasty and nutritious.

Oh, they even come in sachet form now!

I'm thankful Knorr included monggo recipes which can be spiced up with their Knorr Pork Cubes. These recipes will come in handy next time yaya prepares our monggo dish.

Here's a video from Knorr worth watching.
