I've actually tried a couple of different types and brands over the years. I started with those cloth mopheads but they easily tore off and thinned out. Besides, they were not exactly absorbent. Most times, it would just make turn the floor dirt into wet clumps but it would transfer the clumps from one place to another as you moved the mop back and forth. I needed a broom to sweep up all the damp clumps to finish off the cleaning.
Next, I shifted to a more expensive kind, the one that had sponge-like mop bristles. This was more dirt-absorbent and came with a plastic bucket. But still, after a while, it would thin out as the sponge strands would come off due to wear and tear.
The Rubbermaid Reveal Spray Mop which arrived at home was HUGE!!!
My first thought: It looks like my vacuum cleaner! |
Take a closer look at its features.
The Handle
As you can see, the handle is quite long but it is lightweight (even if it is made of steel) and ergonomically designed. Midway along the handle is a rubberized handle grip.
That red lever-like thing almost at the end of the mop is a spray trigger. It releases the cleaning solution from the bottle into the mop. Note also the small hook on the top of the handle for easier storage and space saving since it can be hung.
The Bottle and Bottle Container
Three-fourths of the way down the handle is a receptacle area for a plastic bottle.

The refillable bottle means that I can have several bottles filled with different pre-mixed solutions.
Because I've shifted from chemical-based cleaning agents to more natural and environment-friendly ones, our floors now are mopped with a mixture of vinegar and water. It's good that I can buy several of these bottles so that I can fill them with plain water, vinegar or whatever favorite cleaning solution I want. Sometimes I want a stronger cleaning solution for high foot traffic areas and plain water for other rooms.
To use, turn the bottle with the cleaning solution upside down in the receptacle. Then press the spray trigger to release a generous amount of the solution into the mop below.
The Mop
This is a humongous mop. I measured it with my tape measure and it went well over a foot long! Whew, this can cover a large area with just one fell swoop!
Fifteen inches long!!! |
A closer look at the mop will show a few more things:
It's washable and reusable! |
Velcro hooks on each side of the mop keep the mop pad in place |
Microfibers can get at dirt even in cracks and corners |
With my old mop, I'd have to crouch low because handle is fixed. With the Rubbermaid Reveal Spray Mop, I just move the handle down to floor. |
It will even lie on floor sideways. It's really a 360-degree swivel! |
There's just one thing I wish the Rubbermaid Reveal Spray Mop also had - a belt to tie the bottle to the handle and keep it in place. While a full bottle of cleaning solution will keep it in its receptacle when upright, once you start moving the handle down to low places, the bottle tends to fall out.
